Hydraulic Motors
The range of hydraulic motors offers a choice from 10 versions with a torque of up to 590 Nm.
- The GEAR MOTORS offer options to max. 280 bar and 2,600 rpm (rotations per minute).
- The PISTON motor segment offers options up to max. 340 bar and 2,600 rpm.
How hydraulic motors work?
Triplex plunger pumps use mechanical force (rpm and torque) to generate a specific pressure and flow.
In hydraulic power transmission, this force is transferred from the motor gearbox to the consumer unit through a hydraulic pump and motor. The pump converts mechanical force into hydraulic force (flow and pressure), and the hydraulic motor then converts it back into mechanical force (rpm and torque).
Different versions in cc/revs for both the GEAR and PISTON motors:
- Gear motors: based on the length of the ring gears and the internal and external diameter of the gear.
- Piston motor: by the piston diameter and the number of pistons.
How to choose the right hydraulic motor?
Before making a choice, you should know the pump's torque and the motor cylinder capacity:
- Pump’s torque, what is it?
If you don’t know, this can be easily calculated using the following formula:
Nm = Q (lpm) x P (bar) x 18.22/rpm.
This is the torque generated by the water pump at the given rpm and operational pressure.
- Motor cylinder capacity.
Once we know the torque we must still find the appropriate motor. We also use a formula here:
Cylinder capacity (cc/revs) = torque (Nm) x 62.8/oil pressure (bar) x 0.85 vol. eff.
Demonstration
The customer has a KF36 at 150 lpm (litres per minute), at 130 bar, 1,000 rpm and availability of approximately 230 bar oil pressure.
Nm = 150 lpm x 130 bar x 18.22/1,000 rpm = 355 Nm
Cylinder capacity (cc) = 355 Nm x 62.8/230 bar x 0.85 vol. eff = 114 cc.
This means the ideal motor for this pump is a 114 cc motor!
