A break tank as an extension to your cleaning system offers a guarantee of safety

Where before the installation of a break tank was more the exception than the rule, these days it is usually the norm. This is because a break tank offers very many advantages, and by installing a break tank you also satisfy the requirements relating to back-flow protection.

A water tank is therefore strongly recommended as an extension to the cleaning system. This tank is connected to the single or double pressure-booster unit that you choose (based on the required pressure and flow rate). The main function of the break tank consists of preventing the back-flow of water (possibly containing chemicals) from the cleaning system to the central piping system. In other words, the tank forms a buffer between the central water mains and the cleaning system network.

A filler valve and level sensor are fitted in the break tank. The level sensor will command the filler valve to open to fill the break tank or not.  The valve closes when there is sufficient water in the tank. Should the water still rise for a particular reason (failure of the sensor or valve), the water above the required level is drained away through an overflow.

A second advantage of the break tank is that it is able to accommodate peak times and generate a constant water supply to the branch points. It then performs a water storage function. The size of the water tank is determined depending on the number of litres that your installation needs a minute. Besides the standard 200-litre and 800-litre tanks, BOONS FIS also offers you custom-made tanks for greater storage.

Good to know: the 200-litre and 800-litre tanks from BOONS FIS have a Belgaqua certificate. Belgaqua is the professional association of public services for drinking water supplies and waste water purification in Belgium. The break tanks are accordingly fully in conformity with the following standards: EN1717 (Protection against contamination of drinking water in water installations and general requirements for appliances to prevent contamination by backflow) and product standard EN13077 (Devices to prevent the contamination of drinking water by backflow - Air gap with a non-circular overflow (unrestricted) - Family A - Type B). Our team would be pleased to familiarise you with the possibilities associated with break tanks!
